The Post 16 Curriculum 2012-2014

Students can choose to study between three and four options at Post 16. The entry requirements to study at The Farnley Academy are a minimum of 5 A* to C GCSEs including English or Maths for level 3 subjects. With the exception of A Level Maths and Science, these subjects require a grade B.

What are level 3 qualifications?

Level 3 qualifications are equivalent to A Level study. This means it is more challenging than GCSEs and prepares students for degree level qualifications. These qualifications include A Levels, BTECs and OCR Nationals.

What are BTEC and OCR National Qualifications?

An OCR National or BTEC qualification can be equivalent to multiple A levels at level 3 and multiple GCSEs at level 2. The whole course is continually assessed with no examination.

What are level 2 qualifications?

Level 2 qualifications are equivalent to GCSE study. They are mainly vocational qualifications that prepare students for employment or further training. We also offer GCSE re sits in English, Maths and Science for students who have not achieved grade C at GCSE. These qualifications include GCSEs, BTECs, ECDL, NVQs and OCR Nationals.

What is the Progression Module?

All students will be studying The Progression Module. This is a unit of study which prepares students for transition to higher education or employment. Successful completion of The Progression Module entitles students to 30 UCAS points towards local universities. They will also have a graduation ceremony at Leeds Metropolitan University.
