Established in 2011, the Friends of Farnley group provides invaluable support to staff, students and the wider community at The Farnley Academy. The group meets half termly to discuss how to best support the Academy through purposeful involvement in school life including fundraising, assistance at extra-curricular activities and campaigning in the community.
Achievements of the group have included successfully petitioning for safer access for students in to school through the addition of double yellow parking lines on Whincover Drive; securing a subsidised bus service for students from the Driglington and Gildersome areas, and raising in excess of £2000 through fundraising events. Race Nights, Murder Mysteries and Zumba events have all drawn big crowds thanks to the work of the Friends of Farnley group.
Monies raised through such events has been invested in to projects throughout the Academy based on teacher and student bids. Successful bids have included installing huge inflatable globes in all geography classrooms and supporting the PE Department with purchasing professional kits. In September 2015, all Year 7 students will receive a bookmark from the Friends of Farnley group, designed to encourage reading and further strengthen the partnership between the Friends of Farnley group and The Farnley Academy.
We welcome interest from any parents, carers, family members and local community who would be interested in joining the group. Please contact Mr Quarrell for further information on 0113 263 0741.
