Year 6 students who secure a place at TFA are invited to attend our FREE Summer School.
The objectives of our Summer School programme were as follows:
- To ensure that all new Year 7 students had an additional transition opportunity by spending one week within the school.
- To identify areas of the curriculum where students need additional support
- To begin to introduce lessons in the TFA style to students in these aspects of the curriculum.
- To make students and parents/carers more comfortable about the transition to secondary school and build positive relationships with staff.

As part of the transition process we work really closely with our feeder primary school to identify any areas where students could do with some extra support. During the week we provide sessions aimed at catching up any maths, English and science topics they may be struggling with, as well as ensuring they get to try lessons in music, drama, PE and many more.
What students can expect at Summer School:
- Expertly planned lesson to address any gaps in knowledge
- Friendly supportive staff
- Stationery items
- Refillable water bottle
- Breakfast and snack
- Celebration event at the end of the week including lunch, inflatables, games and prizes
Students will also benefit from having the chance to navigate the school site and improve their understanding our Positive Discipline system.
In the feedback from Summer School 23 many students commented on how welcomed they felt during Summer School and how this helped them to feel more confident about starting school in September. Students said that they enjoyed meeting members of their form groups, making new friends and attending a variety of practical and non-practical lessons.
Our Summer School for the 2026/27 intake will be taking place 17th – 21st August 2026. Please keep the dates safe to make sure that your child can attend this extremely beneficial transition event.
