On Thursday 11th October, The Farnley Academy opened its doors on Chapel Lane and welcomed prospective students and families to the Year 6 Open Evening, we had over 1000 people on site!

Despite the dreary weather conditions, the spirit of the Farnley Academy was not dampened and the students helping at the event shone with enthusiasm, excitement and pride. Several students volunteered to help facilitate the evening. These students were able to answers questions, tell anecdotes about their Farnley experiences and guide visitors around the site.

At the beginning of the evening the auditorium was bursting with excited, apprehensive and ambitious Year 6 pupils waiting for the Principal’s speech. Students were informed about the extensive curriculum that the Farnley Academy has to offer. This was then complimented by a video showcasing school trips, reward days and extra curricula activities, shortly followed by an exceptional performance from the highly talente d GCSE music students.

The atmosphere around the Academy was World Class as students headed to different buildings to experience a range of activities the Academy had to offer. The Sports hall was a hit with Year 6 students as they were keen to take part in football and netball shoot outs, trampolining and table tennis. Year 6 students were also amazed by the mathmagician’s tricks and took part in the Maths countdown challenge to compete for prizes. Many students were left excited by the experiments, including dissections, in the science department. After touring the Academy several students had worked up an appetite and visited the Modern Foreign Languages stand to cook their own crêpes; although some students opted to put their taste buds to the test and took part in the blind taste test in the Food Technology classroom.

The evening was a great success with many students collecting all department stamps in their passports from the various departments they visited throughout the evening!
