This week, students and staff have been remembering the sacrifice, efforts and will of all those involved in the First World War. In assemblies led by Miss Kitson, students enjoyed a powerful and emotive drama piece performed by Historians from Year 8 and 9. During the assembly, Tommy Hill portrayed Horace Isles, a 16 year old Leeds boy who faked his age to sign up to the army in 1916. Bravely joining fellow Leeds pals, Horace was courageous in lining up with fellow front line troops. Horace’s family learnt of his death when a letter sent to the front line was returned, unopened, stating ‘Killed in Action’ on the front of the envelope. During the moving portrayal, Tommy was joined by Rihanna Glastonbury, Philippa Eastwood and Lilli Pearson. Ellie Wood narrated the British Legions ‘Thank You’ campaign. On Friday 9 November, staff and students will come together to share a silent two minutes during which we will remember Horace and all those who contributed to the war efforts in our annual Remembrance ceremony.
