As well as welcoming back lots of familiar faces, we have also welcomed a new cohort of teachers to our academy. We are really excited to have 16 newly qualified teachers start the academy to begin their teaching career with us.
Miss Leckenbey and Miss Donnelley join the English team. Miss Bibi joins the Maths department. Mr Simmons joins the Science team. Miss Fowler and Miss Carr are welcomed by team Geography. In ICT, Ms Ward starts her learning journey. Miss Kearney and Miss Hart join PE, with Mr Whitehead also splitting hours between PE and Citizenship. Miss Pitman and Miss Ramsall join the Drama department, with Miss Ramsall also dedicating hours to Citizenship. Miss Speck joins the Technology team. Miss Marin Alcala and Miss Chadwick join MFL and Ms Oliver-Hemmings Faye joins the EPR team. Miss Street continues her teaching journey with us in Drama. A lot of our NQTs have joined us from our SCITT; we are so proud to see them progress in their teaching journey.
The first term for an NQT is always a the most challenging one. Already, the NQTs have started to build critical relationships with their subject mentors in order to help their development. Starting next week, NQTs will also have specialised training sessions delivered to them by experts within the academy; these sessions have been personalised and made to ensure they are receiving the support needed to allow them to flourish, and achieve their teaching goals.
Having spoken individually to some of them, it was delightful to hear what they felt most proud of so far in their time at Farnley. Miss Speck is really enjoying teaching her year 10 Product Design class and seeing the progress that they are making. Miss Donnelley is making great progress with her year 9s as they are studying Blood Brothers; they were using expert subject terminology in a recent observation.
I am excited to watch the NQT cohort progress further and can’t wait to see how are creative in the classroom.
