All students at TFA are given key information on how to stay safe both inside and outside of school. Empowerment Days play an essential part in preparing our students for life outside of education. It is our priority to ensure that students have a variety of tools and information to be able to tackle anything that life may throw at them and to become upstanding members of the community.
On Thursday 3rd December students took part in their second Empowerment Day of the year looking at what it means to be a UK Citizen, with a specific focus on the community. They covered a range of topics from climate change, political parties, voting and immigration. Throughout the day students were given opportunities to part take in structured and thought-provoking debates around the topics. Years 10 and 11 also took part in the governments PREVENT programme where they identified the signs of radicalisation and the impact of extremist views. The second day was as positive as the first with many students commenting on how informative and impactful the sessions had been. Staff were also extremely complimentary about the day and felt that the new Empowerment structure was allowing students to flourish in their own personal development and explore their views in a safe and secure environment.
We still have one more Empowerment Day planned for later in the year and this will have a specific focus on the wider world. This theme is based around topics such as money management, employment opportunities and the different types of financial debt.
