Capital Development Project

It is wonderful to see the results of the significant capital investment made by The GORSE Academies Trust in Ryecroft Academy.

Phase 1 was completed in 2019 and saw the creation of our Family Hub in the bungalow, the amazing Early Years outdoor play area which you can see in the video below, the new Early Years classrooms and new playground complete with our mile a day track along with other new playground markings.

Phase 2 was completed in 2020 and saw the renovation of the main two-storey block which contains the Key Stage 2 classrooms and the creation of two wonderful outdoor learning areas in our quads. The Reading Pod is adjacent to the library where children can get cosy with a blanket and read amongst the beautiful flower boxes and the Bamboo Base with a school council shop and a potting area where we pot plants and flowers which we grown and gift to our community. This encourages children to think carefully about the use of sustainable and environmentally friendly materials.

Phase 3 is well underway for completion this summer and this will see the renovation of the Key Stage 1 classrooms meaning all our classrooms have then been refurbished to an incredibly high standard. We will also see some changes to the sports hall with a brand new floor and the creation of a new outdoor play area for Key Stage 1 from the same company who created our Early Years area. Our plans for the Companionship and Conservation garden are also progressing and this will see a beautiful living wall and area for children to learn about conservation.

Events

At Ryecroft Academy we feel it is really important to provide a range of exciting events to make our curriculum more engaging for all children. It also gives parents the opportunity to be more involved in their child’s learning journey at school. We have detailed some of the key events we do in Early Years throughout the year;

Hooks/Celebration Events

Each term we have a different topic, at the start of each topic we will have a hook. This is used as a way to develop the children’s intrigue and curiosity around the topic. This may be through a dress up day, a visitor to talk about their job or an educational workshop.  At the end of each topic we have a celebration event, this showcases what the children have learnt through a celebration assembly, class production or activities such as graduation events or trips.

Parent Workshops

We hold parent workshops each half term, during these sessions we model to parents different aspects of the curriculum and how they can support their child at home. These have previously focused on phonics, reading, maths, writing and physical development. During these sessions you will find out about curriculum expectations in both Nursery and Reception, how we teach the subject in school and we will model different activities that you can do at home. You will also get the opportunity to have a go at these activities with your child during the session.

Please note these are not happening in the same format at this time due to covid.

Stay and Play Sessions

We hold regular stay and play sessions throughout the year. These sessions are designed for you as a parent to have the opportunity to come and explore your child’s learning environment alongside them. It is a great parent and child bonding experience which your child can take ownership of as they take you around their favourite places to play and learn and introduce you to their friends.

Please note these are not happening in the same format at this time due to covid.
