In my last communication to you regarding our BLM Curriculum, I outlined the plans we had for students within lessons and what work we were going to undertake. I wanted to take this opportunity to update you on the progress that our students have made tis half-term.
All of our students in years 7-10 have visited the fantastic timeline positioned in our school. This has facilitated some useful retrieval tasks – students have been able to decipher and find information whilst also learning about influential black figures within history.
Alongside this, students are now practising how to write with passion and empathy. We have been overwhelmed with the work students are producing, both in their classwork and homework. The pictures demonstrate the effort students are going to in this unit of work.
Next week, all year groups will sit an English Language assessment; the task will be featured around the BLM content whilst also assessing the English skills that are going to help them progress in their GCSE work.
At The Farnley Academy, we also value the importance of ensuring the curriculum extends outside the classroom. The house competitions that we have ran have also facilitated some outstanding art and writing surrounding the movement.
English teachers have been very proud of all of their students for engaging in this pivotal topic. It is evident that students have given 100% in lesson and as a result, they have discussed important topics whilst enhancing their English skills.
Well done, TFA students. You have shown extreme kindness in this topic.
