On the journey to reaching our next prize line of a non-school uniform WEEK, our students have been given many opportunities to represent their House. We started the term with the World Earth Day pop-up, whereby students had to guess the number of endangered pandas and tigers left in the world. The students who got the closest were Kiedis (Year 11) and Klaudyna (Year 9), both of which won lots of House tokens and a fluffy toy to take away with them.

Now that extracurricular is back up and running, we were able to hold a House netball and football tournament with our year 7’s and 8’s. The turn out was amazing and the competition was very close. In the netball tournament, Tomlinson stole the lead winning a massive 300 tokens! In the football, Asquith were victorious, again winning 300 tokens for their House!

The first Black Lives Matter competition enabled students to create a piece of art inspired by the movement. We were amazed by the creativity of our students and we had a very difficult task picking a winner.

1st – Jasmine M

Joint 2nd – Gracie N and Rhianna H

Joint 3rd – Kyla C and Lili S

In our second Black Lives Matter House competition of the term, students created a poem inspired by the movement. Again, we had lots of entries making selecting a winner extremely difficult. After a lot of consideration, Amelia E (Year 8) won the competition and Tomlinson 300 tokens. Please read her amazing poem below.

‘I can’t breathe he said,
Whilst he was laying on the floor with a knee on his neck.

I can’t breathe he said,
Whilst people look around,
Not taking any notice to the commotion on the ground.

I can’t breathe he said,
28 times he said I can’t breathe.

I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe,
I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe,
I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe.

Those 3 simple words,
Trying to save his life,
If it was a white person,
You would have thought twice.’

Our Careers House competition also came to an end. In this competition, students had to create an inspirational quote to encourage people not to give up on their dreams. The quotes created by our students were truly inspiring and thoroughly embodied our academies core values of Ambitious, Resilient and Kind.

Next week, we see our final competitions of the term. Running all week in our extracurricular programme is TFA’s Got Talent. Students are able to showcase their talent by auditioning in front of our very own celebrity judges. Students are also welocme to participate in the TFA bake off. Baking an ‘End of Lockdown Celebration Cake’ at home and bringing a slice in for taste testing by the technology team. We also see our final BLM competition, this time in the form of a pop-up. Students will be asked to write a response to a statement, sharing their views on the movement and equality.

As we get closer to the next prize line, the competition is heating up. Who will achieve the non-school uniform week?
