At this time of year you may expect a turn down toward summer; however, here at The Farnley
academy that could not be further from the truth!
Since our return to school, our Student Leadership Team have been hard at work doing everything
they can to make the Student Experience at The Farnley Academy truly amazing. They have helped
our attendance team run the Easter Eggstravaganza, given tours of the school to new and
prospective staff and students, and worked tirelessly to make improvements to School life.
A huge focus for the team this term has been the environment. As the Farnley Academy takes up its
role in the Trinidad legacy with The Ruth Gorse Academy, our Student Leaders were front and centre
in the planting of the new Farnley forest, the introduction of the living wall to the Bronte Building
and filming our Trinidad legacy video which has been shown across all secondary schools within the
Gorse Academies Trust.
Our students are so passionate about the environment and making the world a better place that
they have also decided to write a letter to Leeds City Council to petition to put more bins in Farnley
Hall Park to encourage all members of local community to keep it litter free. This has also been the
dedicated work of the student leaders who are also community champions. These incredible
students spend one evening a week going on a litter pick around the local area, and we are so proud
of their drive and determination.
Our other focus has been on our Student Charter. This was developed by students for students as a
set of goals to becoming to the best student they can be. Our Student Leadership team have
reflected on where they think our student body is and this will help shape how the new team will
move forward in September.
The Team also met with Mr Stokes as a whole group for the first time this year and they had a
brilliant discussion about how the school can improve further and create an even better experience
for our students. Mr Stokes was extremely impressed with their elegant and professional manor
when speaking to him about how to improve out amazing school.
Despite all the challenges this year has thrown at them our Student Leadership team have done an
excellent job either holding meetings remotely on Teams or fortnightly in the mezzanine. We hope
they are as proud of themselves as we are of each and every one of them. Whoever is on the team
next year will have a tough act to follow.
