Remembrance Day
In order to pay our respects to fallen soldiers, over the last few weeks our students have been busy planning and delivering a fantastic celebration of Remembrance Day.
Initially, all of our student leaders on the run up to November 11th were using their own free time at break/lunch to sell poppies across the school. In addition to this, the student leaders spent time with Miss Kitson preparing assemblies that were delivered to all students. These assemblies were designed to enlighten students on the sacrifices our soldiers made for us in past wars.
On the day of the event, The Farnley Academy were proud to host a whole-school commemoration event. All of the school walked out to the quad in silence. Standing in silence, students listened to poetry, read by our student leaders, and listened to the words that Miss Kitson gave surrounding Remembrance Day. A two-minute silence was held whilst the last post was played. It was a true mark of respect and our students demonstrated pride and respect in their behaviour.
Finally, year 11 student leaders walked to the local War Memorial to lay a wreath as a mark of respect from The Farnley Academy. Overall, we are very proud of our students for evidencing kindness and respect surrounding this event; it is clear from occasions such as these that this core value is truly embedded.
