At The Farnley Academy, we are incredibly passionate about reading and the wonders that surround it. The importance of reading is irrefutable. From reducing stress, to building character and opening up a whole world of knowledge, leafing through a good book is one of the greatest pleasures known to man. That’s why we have introduced some additional reading intervention for students within school time.
One of our new interventions is the ‘Reading form’. With our reading leader, Miss McDowall, students are provided with personalised booklets that help break down difficult vocabulary and sound out advanced word meanings. Alongside this, we have small group reading sessions with the librarian to allow students to be exposed to more books, more vocabulary and therefore, more opportunities to learn new words. Both Miss McDowall and Miss Bate have been overwhelmed with the contributions and efforts from students in these sessions.
We continue to promote reading and try to enthuse our students in reading through a plethora of ways.
