Every year, the harrowing events from the Holocaust are remembered world-wide as a mark of respect to the victims. At The Farnley Academy, we ensure a range of events take place to mark our respects and ensure students understand the importance of remembering such a colossal event in history.
Throughout all English lessons at KS3, students enjoyed a lesson exploring Elie Wiesel’s ‘Night’ extract. The famous novel is an integral memoir written from the first-person perspective of a Holocaust survivor. Elie Wiesel dedicated his life to raising awareness of this horrific event so that it did not repeat itself again.
The History department arranged an exceptional experience for all year 11 students who study History to engage with. Students came out of lessons for the first three periods of the day and were able to watch a live stream of a Holocaust survivor recall their events from the horrific moment in time. She discussed intricate details about her journey to the concentration camps, as well as the time she spent there. She then informed our students about the wonderful, inspirational life that she has lived after the war.
As always, our students demonstrated respect and fantastic attitudes in marking this significant event in history.
