In order to further enhance the support on offer to students at TFA, we are very excited to have launched The ‘Behaviour Support Matrix’ (BSM). The BSM has been designed to work alongside our ‘Student Tiering System’ and has been developed to target the 1% of students who are currently not improving their behaviour despite the huge amount of support available to them.
- The Behaviour Support Matrix provides one to one intervention to some of our most vulnerable students. Intervention may be considered where it is identified that there is an ongoing barrier for a student such as they are not able to engage effectively with the Positive Discipline (PD) Policy or that their secondary journey is not currently so far successful or rewarding, thereby impacting on their gift of choice and potential future goals and aspirations.
- The sessions have been created in line with the PD pyramid and are designed to reflect reasons for sanctions. Stand alone or multiple sessions may be offered depending on the needs of the student and in some cases, more than one intervention package may be appropriate. To support the most effective sessions, conversations with home and key staff will be required and observation of the student during lessons and social times may be deemed useful. All students who return from suspension receive package A of the BSM as a way to support their reintegration.
- All sessions take place on a one-to-one basis and will last approximately 50 minutes, the packages are designed to last between 3 and 6 weeks depending on the level of support required.
- The sessions have been carefully planned to focus on key aspects of school such as developing resilience, understanding the consequences of actions, owning the choices that they make and support around making healthy choices.
- Students currently get excellent high-quality wave one and wave two strategies at TFA from both teachers and the pastoral teams. We feel that some students need some additional support in school to help them with key aspects such as self-regulation, resilience and organisation. This targeted intervention will hopefully have a lasting impact on the student both inside and outside of TFA.
