Last week, on Thursday 2nd March 2023, the annual event of World Book Day graced the Farnley Academy. This year’s was bigger than ever, with a record amount of students dressing up and getting involved in the events!
We dedicated the entire week to all things literary. In the library space, a number of events and competitions ran, such as:
- Bookmark making
- Write your own story
- Mystery books
- Lucky dip
- Numerous book quizzes
- The fancy dress competition!
In addition to these additional activities, students across the school engaged with reading in a more explicit way. Year 7 and year 8 were able to attend an exciting event with an author, Curtis Jobling. Many went away and purchased his books afterwards.
The competition on Thursday was the best we have seen yet. Students went above and beyond to dress as their favourite literary characters. Some, however, stood above the rest! Our winners were:
- First place: Ewan Nichols as Hunter from Bad Batch
- Second place: Max Hudson as Dogman
- Third place: Eliza Bussey as Cassie
They all win a copy of the gorgeous book, The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse. Plus a massive bar of Dairy Milk chocolate. Ewan gets a £20 National Book Token and Max and Eliza get a £10 one.
We continue to love all things reading and are so proud to see our students feel the same.
