This half term students in year 10 have started to complete the first stages of their Active Citizenship element of their GCSE citizenship. This is 15% of their overall grade. It provides students with the opportunity to work independently or as a group to play an active role in their society.
Students get to decide their issue of focus based on the primary and secondary research that they conduct.
This half term all students have had the opportunity to start their research to help them decide on their topic.
Year 10 have had some fantastic ideas of local issues that they wish to focus their campaigns on:
- Raising awareness of hate incidents in sport
- Bus prices/transport opportunities for young people
- Health and safety in Rugby League
- Awareness of mental health support
- Raising awareness of period poverty
- Raising awareness of homelessness in Leeds
And many more!
We are really excited to see how these campaigns develop over the next few months.
Well done year 10 for being active citizens!
