Our Three Aims

Biodiversity

We hope to increase the biodiversity of our school grounds by planning more trees, constructing a living wall and introducing a range of hedgehog homes and insect hotels.

Litter

Through the work our ‘Community Champions’ we seek to reduce the litter around our school grounds and local community by carrying our litter picks.

Energy Use

Our aim at TFA is to reduce our energy use through a range of strategies and also in the future invest in more renewable forms of energy such as solar and wind.

At The Farnley Academy our aim is to become more environmentally sustainable to help protect our community and prevent climate change from getting worse. With our partnerships with Eco-Schools, Energy Sparks and the wider Gorse Academies Trust, we are pledging to create a more sustainable and less wasteful future for all.

Our Green GORSE Ambassadors have selected three areas that we are going to work on to achieve this; biodiversity, litter and energy.

Eco Schools

The Eco-Schools programme is to unite young people to make changes and positive impacts to our planet. Pupils will have the privilege to learn about impactful environmental actions in order to make a difference in their school and local community.

Active Travel

Our Gorse Gets Healthy and No Planet B Club members came together to work on a new initiative. We have been promoting our active travel and how we can be more sustainable for the environment by creating ideas and initiatives to encourage more students to not use petrol or diesel cars to get to school. This is something we are keen to improve as we move forward with our ambition to help the community and the environment to be more sustainable.
