As you will be aware Volleyball is part of The BIG 3 sports for the Gorse Academies Trust. The volleyball programme in school has existed for some time but over the course of the last 18 months the partnership between Leeds Gorse Volleyball club and children from the academies has flourished.
The Under 15 and 16 boys team made the national final, this had not been achieved before for a Leeds team, and the Under 15 team won the final so are National Champions.
In addition, Volleyball England hosts an inter-regional competition each year whereby 9 regions compete against one another to be national inter-regional champions. Once again, the under 15 boys were crowned champions and our very own Emanuel was voted Most Valuable Player for the final. The girl’s team are constantly improving and will be chasing the national titles themselves next year.
Our next development in this area in our expansion into beach volleyball with Farnley becoming the first Northern school in England to build our very own courts.
I am sure you will agree this type of opportunity for our students and wider Gorse participation is absolutely superb, as a Big 3 sport students can complete for free in all events.
