We all know just how important health and wellbeing is to students’ happiness and success in their lives. As a part of the GORSE Academies Trust, The Farnley Academy are committed to providing an exceptional student experience for all. This includes the support of student wellbeing and encouraging their engagement in active lifestyles through the GORSE Gets Healthy initiative which includes ‘the BIG 3’: Karate, Rowing and Volleyball. On Thursday 30 November 2023 we hosted a parent information evening with a focus on ‘Wellbeing and Health’ aimed at students in years 8 and 9 and their families.
This evening provided students and their families with:
- Overview of the issues affecting students in year 8 and 9.
- Guidance about supporting student wellbeing.
- Introduction to each of the BIG 3 sports.
Mr. Blanchard (Head of Year 8) and Mrs. Conboy (Head of Year 9) were available to speak parents about any issues their child is facing. Additionally, as part of the evening, a short address was given from the coaches for the BIG 3 sports, they provided information about the benefits of the sport and how students can take part. Following on from the main event in the auditorium, students and their families were able to try their hands at the BIG 3 sports under the guidance of our coaches. The feedback from the evening was overwhelmingly positive, thank you to all the families who attended.
