Why is it so important?

At TFA, we value the importance of homework as an important and essential part of your education.

When done well, it can add 5 months to your progress at school.

Homework is an opportunity to review and reinforce what you’ve already learned or to explore new learning. In addition, it teaches you important skills about time management, independent work and meeting deadlines.

That is why we set homework regularly for all your subjects and expect you to complete it to the best of your ability.

Well done to those people who consistently try their best with homework. Your hard work will pay off.

How can you be successful?

  • Ensure homework is recorded accurately in your planner with the task and deadline clear.
  • Store homework sheets safely in your homework folder or glued into your exercise book with your classwork.
  • Plan your week to know when you will complete your homework. Aim to do it as soon as possible. If you know a certain subject is set on the same day every week, you know when to expect it.
  • Show your teacher you have put maximum effort into your work. If you’ve struggled, use the extra resources to help you or speak to your teacher before the deadline.
  • Use the support you may have in school like the library, LSC, after-school clubs or homework clubs to support you.
  • Complete your homework somewhere quiet, ideally where you can sit at a table or desk to help you focus and take in as much learning as possible.

How do we ensure you’re maximising your learning?

  • Homework is printed on blue paper or the blue stamp is used to signpost your homework tasks.
  • Homework is set near the start of the lesson so you have time to write it down and store it safely.
  • You have a homework folder to store or exercise book to glue sheets into to keep them safe and together.
  • Homework comments are issued whenever you fail to meet a homework deadline without agreement from your teacher.
  • Homework club is assigned for students who struggle with meeting homework deadlines.
  • There is a homework schedule for all subjects.
  • At KS3, a homework task should take a minimum of 30 minutes to complete. KS4 this is an hour.

How are we going to improve?

From Half Term 4:

  • All homework will clearly show the week number it has been set at the top of the task.
  • If you miss the lesson where homework is set, you are expected to get the homework task from your teacher, or your teacher will give you the task in the next lesson they see you. You will be given a reasonable deadline to complete it.
  • If you do not complete a homework task, a new deadline will be given to complete the work. This means you will still have to complete it or receive another homework comment.
  • This is to encourage everyone to value homework as much as we do.
