I would like to briefly explain why PE at The Farnley Academy is such a pivotal part of the student experience. PE is a National Curriculum subject, which means it is compulsory and we do our very best to ensure that this is an exciting curriculum and provides them with the confidence to live a healthy life. We believe that we go above and beyond this with our offering both in lesson time and with extra-curricular, where we provide so many opportunities to students to be exposed to different environments where they can represent the school. Our students have represented the school in sports such as football, rugby, netball, rowing, volleyball, karate, rounders, cricket, dodgeball, table tennis and athletics and we want to continue to showcase this. The best part of our job is seeing students flourish and gain confidence from being exposed to physical activity, knowing that we had an impact.

PE kit is vital to us providing the above and is something that needs to be organised by students. Our main goal as teachers is to enhance the confidence and experience of students and for this to happen we need students to wear the correct TFA PE kit. Please see below for a reminder as to what our PE kit is and ensure that your child has the correct kit for each of their PE lessons.

P.E Kit Updates

Over the recent months we have been reviewing changes to our PE kit to enhance the student experience and support any barriers that may occur during these lessons. Whilst we will always recognise the importance of a uniformed PE kit, we feel that making some slight changes could improve the students perceptions of kit and the importance of this.

After listening to the views of our students through student voice, we have decided that we will now offering further options to our kit list. We will be expanding and, in some cases, modifying to now offering sports leggings, slim leg tracksuit bottoms (to replace the current ones), TFA branded shorts which will replace the current shorts, and a midlayer top (please see below) – all of these will be unisex options and will be TFA branded. The midlayer unisex top will gradually phase out the current girls fleece. This is still allowed and is available at a cut cost rate on the website until stocks last.

With these changes, it now means that there are new options for combinations that are outlined below:

  • Students can now wear the unisex sports top and the leggings as kit (must be the Price and Buckland TFA branded kit)
  • They can wear the unisex sports polo, the shorts and the long black socks (Price and Buckland TFA ones are still required)
  • They can wear the shorts over the top of their leggings if they wish.
  • They can wear the midlayer top as an extra layer if they wish.

To be clear the compulsory items for PE equipment are:

  • Unisex sports polo (must be TFA branded)
  • At least one of microtech shorts, tracksuit bottoms, or leggings (must be TFA branded)
  • Long PE socks (must be TFA branded)
  • Boots (for all lessons on grass)
  • Trainers (for all indoor lessons and lessons on the yard)

As we move through these changes we will continually reflect and consider the views of students, parents and teachers to give our students the best experience possible.
