Our Student Leadership Team is spearheaded by our two Heads of School and our two deputy Heads of School. These Year 11 students were elected following a whole school staff and student vote. The process provides students with an understanding of democracy and candidates have to create their own manifesto explaining why they deserve their vote.

Student Leaders attend regular meetings with Mr Ross, our Student Experience Leader, and they also meet with the Principal Mr Little termly. This provides a platform to discuss what they think is working well within the school and where they think improvements can be made.

Student Leaders play an active role in representing our academy at key events such as Open Evening and Parent Consultation Evenings. They also play an important role in helping to interview new prospective staff and helping show SCITT staff around the school.

Our Student Leaders have done a tremendous job at having a significant impact on enhancing the student experience. For example, they:

  • Played a major role in increasing environmental awareness in school with the living wall and Farnley forest.

  • Placed water fountains in every building of the school;

  • Helped us improve further the way we deliver our online learning.
  • Ensured that halal food is served in the canteen.

  • Done litter picking round the school site and the local community.

  • A number of changes have been made to student uniform rules as a result of student feedback in our student leaders’ meetings.

The student leaders play a vital role in supporting school events. Here are some examples of events they have helped support:

  • Easter Eggstravagansa, Farnley Festival and Winter Wonderland.

  • World Kindness Day

  • Termly Meeting with Mr Little
  • The Armley Helping Hands Event

  • Assisted in delivering Assemblies

  • Student Leadership Rewards Trip and a trip to the Houses of Parliament

  • Working along Mount St Mary’s – Aid for Afghanistan

Term 1 Update:

This term we were delighted to welcome our new year 7 leaders and new Heads and Deputy Heads of School. Mr Ross has enjoyed meeting with the Heads of Years to listen to the goals for the year. They also met with Mr Little who has keen to put the student leadership team at the forefront of decision making in the school. Our new year 7 leaders have already contributed some great ideas in our meetings and have been incredibly helpful at a number of school events, in particular the school open event. Our student leaders have already supported more than 10 school events including parents evenings, staff tours, our remembrance event, assemblies and 100% attendance reward pop ups. Some examples of things that students and staff have worked on as a result of feedback at our meeting so far include litter picking sessions, a mental health awareness campaign, contacting Ryecroft Primary School to see if we can help their students read and a new extra-curricular gym session.
