So far this year our wonderful DofE students have got stuck in with giving up their time to learn new skills, improve their physical health and volunteer their time for the benefit of others. We have had some amazing students give up their time at local Park Runs, soup kitchens, animal shelters and farms. Students have been learning some new skills, everything from crochet to piano and photography to karate. It has been an absolute joy to see the amazing hard work over 150 students have managed alongside school and studies in order to qualify for the upcoming expeditions.
With our training days done, information evenings ticked off, it’s almost time!
First up are our silver students taking on 3 days and 2 nights of walking and camping. Starting in Denholme and finishing in Guiesely they will average well over 11km every day, carrying all of their camping gear and testing themselves not only physically but mentally too, to complete the challenge. As a reminder, this takes places Wednesday 9th July – Friday 11th July. We need students in at 7.45am ready to go and hope to have them back by 4pm to Hall Lane on the Friday, ready for a well-earned weekend of rest.
On the 17th and 18th July, the bronze students are up next and with close to 90 students going it is a record year group for participation, so well-done Year 9! A little earlier for this group with a 7.30am meet at school ready to go. We start at Harewood house, make our way to Bramhope and finish by Yeadon tarn, making it a manageable yet scenic walk with around 10km of walking each day. Keep that evidence coming in those last few that are almost done. Well done on nearly completing the award and having a bonus qualification for your CV!
Some commonly forgotten items are; sun cream, a 2L bottle, a water proof, phone charger and eating utensils. Time to get packing and preparing!
