Last week’s Year 7 SEND Engage Evening was a heartwarming and productive event that brought together parents, carers, and key members of our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) team. The evening provided a valuable opportunity for families to connect with staff, share insights, and collaborate on the progress and wellbeing of their children.
Parents and carers had the chance to meet one-on-one with the SENDCo, Assistant SENDCo or the Assistant Principal for SEND to discuss how their child is getting on both academically and socially. These conversations helped to deepen understanding, celebrate achievements, and identify areas where additional support may be needed.
A key focus of the evening was the review of pupil passports—personalised documents that outline each student’s strengths, needs, and strategies for support. Families were invited to contribute their perspectives, ensuring that these passports truly reflect the whole child. This collaborative review process helps us tailor our approach to each learner, making sure their voice—and their family’s voice—is heard.
The feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive. Many appreciated the chance to speak directly with staff in a relaxed setting and felt reassured by the level of care and commitment shown. The SEND team also gained valuable insights that will inform future planning and support strategies.
We’re proud to host events like SEND Engage that strengthen the partnership between home and school. Together, we can ensure every child receives the understanding, encouragement, and resources they need to thrive.
