On Thursday 6 February, the Design & Technology department hosted their annual D&T Challenge Day. A huge number of students across Y7 and Y8 applied to take part, outlining their skills in teamwork, problem solving, designing and manufacturing in their applications, and 36 of these students were successful and went on to take part in the day.
On the day, students were given a problem to solve- they had to make a sorting machine for all the different House tokens, to separate the 4 different types of token we use in the Academy. Students worked hard throughout the day in their teams, testing and modelling their solutions to try to make sure their products worked effectively. It was great to see the wide range of designs made by the different teams- the D&T staff were really impressed with the quality and individuality of the solutions!
Testing at the end of the day resulted in one team being triumphant, correctly sorting all 4 tokens into separate compartments… well done Shaan, Harrison, Ebony and Ruth!
