The Eco-Schools programme empowers young people to make a difference in their school, local community and beyond.

We are currently applying for Eco-Schools status for this we must evidence the work we have done in different areas such as biodiversity, energy, litter, transport, waste and water.

These can be projects which have been carried out by our Eco-Committee but also curriculum based activities for all students.

Our Eco-Committee consists of students who attend No Planet B club on a Tuesday after school (new members are welcome!)

Here is a few projects they have been involved in:

  • Conducted a pollution check in the car park which prompted the changes to the drop off and pick up arrangements so we get to breathe cleaner air
  • Litter picking around the school grounds
  • Design and production of hedgehog boxes and insect hotels for around the school grounds
  • Planting trees in the school grounds
  • Visited John Smeaton Academy to share our ideas with other schools in our Trust.

Eco-Schools ‘Cut Your Carbon’ Week

Eco-Schools has produced a series of carbon-cutting ideas that will help young people to raise awareness about carbon-emissions and start reducing the carbon-footprint of their school.

The activities connect to 3 areas that are having a devastating impact on our planet:

  • Clothing,
  • Energy-use
  • Food

During the week students were provided with information about these areas and ideas for how they could reduce their impact.
