On Monday 21 October students from across the academy gathered together to take part in the first ever House Drama competition at The Farnley Academy. Students were tasked with creating a piece of Drama throughout the day based upon a stimulus of a fallen soldier in WW1. Students from years 8, 9 and 10 worked tirelessly forging new friendships and supporting each other as they created work of an outstanding quality.

With only three hours to create their piece, the standard of work was magnificent. A glamourous judging panel consisting of our House Leaders Miss McLoughlin, Mr Williams and Head of History Mr Vickers were amazed with the quality, praising their maturity, creativity and practical ability.

The winning house was Asquith taking the crown with 254 marks from the day, narrowly beating Moore by one point. On the day students said “it was great to work with different ages across the school and feel the pressure of performing to judges and an audience”. Judged on teamwork, creativity and performance skills the students created emotional performances with a consistent theme of remembrance throughout and should be very proud of their work.

Overall the day was a phenomenal success with students showing of their fantastic ability. The Drama team loved working with the students. KS4 students provided informed direction and motivational leadership as directors, whilst it was also clear to see we should expect big things from our future stars of the stage in KS3. Congratulations to all involved!
