One of the most exciting parts for my return to school has been finding out that I am teaching a forensic reading lesson.

Forensic reading is a reading lesson that KS3 take part in weekly. This entire lesson is dedicated to reading rich texts, that not only guide our students in learning how to dissect language and write fantastically, but also educate them on topics that are both educational and have cultural significance.

Within a typical forensic reading lesson, students will read short extracts that are vibrant with language. The teacher will guide students into understanding the different segments of the text, and what the writer specifically has done to create magic on the page. Then, debate and discussion can arise from the themes and topics that are prevalent within the text, promoting fantastic oracy and confidence skills within our students.

This term, we kick off with ‘Journeys and Futures’. Students are exploring how journeys and the future can be both physical and spiritual. I hope you are as excited as we are to see the development of students in this exciting lesson!
