On Wednesday 16 July, Miss Fletcher, Miss Street and Mrs Carney, took a small cast of students to perform Hamlet, in the GORSE Shakespeare Festival at The Ruth Gorse Academy. The day started at 8am, where students boarded the minibus with costumes, set and props in hand to arrive at TRGA for a full dress and technical rehearsal in the incredible performance space, using professional lighting and sound. Joining us throughout the day were performers from The Morley Academy and Bruntcliffe Academy.
The scale and spirit of what the students achieved was truly inspiring. They played an essential role in a celebration of creativity, collaboration, and the arts that:
- Welcomed around 560 primary pupils from 9 different schools to the matinee performances
- Attracted just over 650 audience members to the evening shows
- Saw over 170 young performers from 9 secondary schools take to the stage
- Brought to life 9 bold, original interpretations of Shakespeare’s work
The piece particularly reflected a depth of imagination and commitment that left a lasting impression, and the standard was excellent – a testament to the leadership of the teacher Directors and the environment they created for their students to shine.
The Farnley Academy’s performance of Hamlet was a huge success and we thank Miss Fletcher and Miss Street for their creative and imaginative directing skills to bring their vision to life. We want to congratulate the students involved, not only for their outstanding performance of Hamlet, but for their exceptional behaviour and attitudes throughout the duration of the experience. We are incredibly proud and grateful of their commitment to the Arts at TFA and hope parents and carers enjoying the performance as much as we enjoyed making it. Thank you also, to parents and carers for your continued support.
