Over the course of Term 1 we have many things to celebrate in relation to our wonderfully talented students completing in sporting event; below is a brief summary of just some of the great events to have taken place so far.
Football Teams
The Year 9 and Year 10 boy’s football teams performed very well in the National Cup and excelling against some of the toughest teams in the county. Whilst the Year 8 and 11 boy’s teams are advancing nicely in the Leeds County cup after some hard-fought victories. The highlight for Y7 boys was a brilliant win in their league fixture against Leeds West and the girls, who performed extremely well in a cup game that went all the way to penalties. All the boy’s and girl’s teams will now look forward to playing a variety of league fixtures now and look for further success.
Rugby Teams
Our Year 7 girls’ rugby team won a local Leeds Rhinos Foundations tournament and will advance to the next stage after some scintillating performances against some local schools in their first outing as a team. The Year 9 boys rugby team won the Leeds and Hunslet plate, whilst the Year 8 and 10 boy’s teams have qualified for the Yorkshire cup.
Gorse Volleyball
The TFA volleyball team are currently top of the GORSE Volleyball league, after some outstanding performances and teamwork within our three teams. They have impressed so much that our Year 9 team are now looking to enter the National Championships! Watch this space for more exciting news about volleyball, clubs run on a Tuesday and Friday afterschool.
Netball Teams
The Year 8 netball team, who after a long year waiting for their first fixtures, managed to play some brilliant fixtures and achieve their first win! The netball teams have been growing in popularity over the half term and we look forward to seeing all year groups represent the school. It is not too late to join; Key Stage 3 Netball is on a Wednesday night 3 – 4pm and Key Stage 4 Netball is on a Tuesday night 3 – 4pm.
Rowing
We continue to have success in rowing, with medals coming in from the recent Yorkshire Championships, including relay medals and an excellent bronze in a tough Year 10 race from Ebenezer, who continues to excel in many sports at TFA. We are continuing to see wonderful rowers being produced as we see the quality of the extra-curricular grow.
Gorse Games
The GORSE Games is a hugely enjoyable opportunity for many of our students with the football and athletics events being greatly competitive where we have seen some great performances from our Year7, 8 and 9 teams. The next events are Rowing on January 26th and Boccia on February 2nd which we look forward to competing in.
