Never has health and well-being been more important than it is in the current climate. Having good health is not just about ensuring that the body is physically fit, but it is also equally as important to have a healthy and strong mind. If we feel fully fit overall, it allows us to positively tackle daily challenges and situations of adversity head on and gives us all the confidence to go on and achieve great things.

Staying in good health is one thing that should be a top priority for everybody and is something that becomes particularly important to us all in later life. It is vital to stay in the best shape possible, taking good care of yourself both physically and mentally and get support with any pre-existing health conditions.

Having the motivation and energy to eat healthily and exercise regularly is tough, particularly when our lives are often busy and other things often seem to take precedence. It is no surprise that people up and down the country are currently feeling like they are seriously lacking motivation towards everyday life. 12 months on from the start of a global pandemic, we find ourselves in an unprecedented situation having faced three National lockdowns, countless restriction changes and for some people painful bereavements. The past 12 months have turned everybody’s lives upside down and it has been incredibly challenging for every one of us, even the strongest willed of people have found it tough.

As it has been incredibly tough it is important that you don’t beat yourself up about what you haven’t done over the past 12 months. Just remember the smallest of efforts moving forward can help to get your overall health and well-being back on track. With the restrictions lifting over the coming weeks, now should be a perfect time to assess your fitness levels and set new healthy goals for the future. Even slight changes to your diet, sleep and exercise routine can have a big impact on your overall lifestyle.

Mental wellbeing isn’t about feeling happy all of the time but means that you can function well both individually and in a relationship. It means that you can cope with the challenges you face daily and make the most of every opportunity with a sense of purpose. Research has shown that physical activity can help improve mood, reduce stress and anxiety, and help prevent mental health issues. Spending time in nature and focussing on your natural surroundings has also been proven to help with mental well-being. At a time where mental health is a huge focus nationally, it is vital that we all do our bit to support each other and reflect on the positives of the last year and what you are going to do in the future to improve.

We are very proud of how both our staff and students have returned to the Farnley Academy after such a difficult period, and we are now very much looking forward to brighter days ahead.
