Throughout September, our Y11 History students took part in several visits to Temple Newsam House as part of their work on the History Around Us module of their GCSE. Pupils will sit a 1-hour examination on the historical site worth 20% of their final grade. Across each of the four trips, pupils learnt about the rich and varied history of Temple Newsam across 500 years of history, from expert guides at the house. It was a joy to see so many of our pupils volunteering to dress up as historical figures with links to Temple Newsam and the staff at the house were extremely complimentary of the conduct and engagement shown by our students. There were opportunities for pupils to see the house through the lens of domestic staff who have worked there, including a tour of the cellars underneath the house. Mr Vickers would like to extend thanks to Mrs Stewart for the organisation of the visit, and to all pupils who represented our academy superbly during the visits. For those students who were unable to take part in the visits, Mr Vickers will be looking at running a smaller visit in the near future.
