On 26th April, 32 of our Year 8 and 32 of our Year 7 students took part in the UKMT Junior Maths Challenge. The Junior Maths Challenge is a 60-minute, multiple-choice quiz which poses difficult problems for students to work through. It encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in using mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems. The questions on the Junior Mathematical Challenge are designed to make students think outside the box and are not the usual type of problems students would be used to in their maths lessons.  Over 250,000 pupils across the UK sat the Junior Maths Challenge with the top 6% receiving a Gold certificate, the next 13% Silver and the next 21% Bronze. Farnley Academy students excelled, receiving 14 bronze and 7 silver certificates. A special mention goes to Ellie W in Year 8 who achieved the highest score and was awarded the “Best in School” certificate. Congratulations to everyone who took part, we are extremely proud of your efforts.
