As you will be aware, at The Farnley Academy we are committed to providing an ‘Exceptional Student Experience for All’. To us an exceptional student experience means that students acquire the skills and knowledge to achieve their dreams and this vision is supported by our fantastic extra-curricular offering.
One of our new extra-curricular clubs this academic year is The Farnley Academy ‘Student Newspaper Team’. This club seeks to support aspiring journalists to further develop their passion through the exploration of news articles within the academy. Over the course of the last term, members of the club have been compiling stories into a newsletter. I am delighted to share with you the first issue of the Student Newsletter today.
The Student Newspaper Team is led by Mr Cousins and Miss Foster, English teachers with experience in the journalism industry, and includes successful applicants from across all year groups who showed a passion for journalism, reporting or illustration. The students have dedicated roles from photographers and artists to reporters and correspondents. They meet regularly to discuss and plan the content, then provide support for our student journalists to complete their reports.
The Student Newspaper Team have a strong interest in supporting student wellbeing, promoting student voice and reporting on the wonderful events in school! They are very dedicated to doing their very best and have made us proud with their very first reports.
We hope you enjoy reading this issue. All future issues will be shared with parents / carers via email; however, hard copies can be requested by contacting the academy.
