The first term at The Farnley Academy is over and our NQTs have successfully completed it with flying colours. At the academy, we were fortunate enough to employ thirteen newly qualified teachers in September and so far, they have already achieved an incredible amount in their first term of teaching.
In September, Miss Kara-Zaitri and Mr Sharp joined the Citizenship team. Dr. Collinson, Miss Cooke and Miss Walker joined the Science department. Miss Stoba, Miss Furniss and Miss Knight in English. Miss Guthrie, Miss Sunderland and Mr Graham are part of team Maths. Mr Vere has joined the ICT and Computing department. Finally, Miss Macaulay is part of Art and Design.
The first term for an NQT is always a the most challenging one – alongside this the NQTs have taken part in one of the biggest nights that the academy hosts – The Farnley Academy’s Open Evening. Already they’ve been able to feedback critical information for students at parents evening. They have also undergone an OFSTED inspection. With a term as busy as this one, the teachers should be incredibly proud of the progress they have already made. We are extremely proud of their progression already in their subject areas.
Having spoken individually to some of them, it was delightful to hear what they felt most proud of so far in their time at Farnley. Dr. Collinson stated she was most proud of her ability to plan meaningfully for a range of abilities and stated how much she loved teaching on a daily basis. Miss Macaulay has seen a class make enormous progress with her from the start of the year and is now really pleased in her development with them. Miss Sunderland is overwhelmed with her year 8 class, stating they’re simply doing amazing.
I am excited to watch the NQT cohort progress further and can’t wait to see their achievements at the end of the year.
