Key Dates

  • Options Evening is Tuesday 23 February 2021, 6pm – 8pm.
  • Deadline for completion of Options forms is Tuesday 9 March.

Support

  • All year 8 students have been scheduled a 1-1 meeting with our Careers Officer
  • Students have had an assembly discussing the process and the possible destinations after The Farnley Academy
  • Curriculum Leaders have presented to all students in assemblies to detail their courses, this has included what they will study and how they will be assessed.
  • Students can request additional guidance from Mr Flynn, Academic Progress Leader, or Mr Cosgrove, Senior Vice Principal, if required. In addition, they also have daily access to their form tutors.

Pathways

All students will be allocated a Pathway; the chosen Pathway allows our students to compete for places in Post-16, university and the workplace with the very best in the country. As always we are highly aspirational for all young people and know that positive experiences and excellent examination grades make a real difference in later life.

Pathway A

The highest attaining students are on Pathway A; this Pathway is designed to allow our students to compete with the very best in the country. Students on Pathway A will study the English Baccalaureate set of subjects, this is the gold standard in education.

Most students will complete GCSE Citizenship in Year 10, this should apply to all students on Pathway A. If it is considered that a student is not ready to sit the exam in Year 10, then it will be delayed until Year 11.

Pathway B

The majority of students are on Pathway B; this Pathway is designed to allow our students to select to complete The English Baccalaureate if they wish.

This Pathway will ensure the highest possible standards in Core Subjects, English, mathematics and Science.

Most students will complete GCSE Citizenship in Year 10. If it is considered that a student is not ready to sit the exam in Year 10, then it will be delayed until Year 11.

Some students will be selected to study GCSE Statistics over the course of Year 9 and 10. This will be examined at the end of Year 10.

If a child has not met the expected standard of the National Curriculum in Key Stage 3 they will be required to complete additional study in these areas. Once they have met the required standard they will resume their KS4 Options.
