“At The Farnley Academy, we believe that all young people, regardless of ability or need, can prosper in an outstanding school. We refuse to place limitations on any students’ performance and, as a consequence, students become increasingly ambitious and self-propelled learners. We are extremely proud of our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) provision we offer students.”
Mrs Connolly, SENCo
On 29 November 2018, The Farnley Academy held its annual SEND Engage Evening. Following the changes within the department, I wanted to not only introduce myself as the new SENCo, but also introduce the team and discuss the changes that have been made within the academy’s support structure and the positive impact that I know this will have for our SEND students.
One of my first tasks when I became SENCo at the beginning of the 2018/19 academic year, was to allocate each SEND student with a Key Worker. The Key Worker is the first port of call for both students and parents alike, and for the first time, parents and carers were invited to meet with the Key Workers to discuss their child’s needs in detail, and ask for further advice or impart knowledge. This was an incredibly successful part of the evening, and something that we are hopeful we will be able to continue with moving forward.
As with all new endeavours, there is room for improvement, and the feedback from the evening has been collated, and actions put in place, to enable us to make the next Engage Evening an even greater success!

“The information I have been provided with will help me to support my child to do work/learning at home”
