The Farnley Academy has participated in the Shine programme run by the University of York for a number of years. Shine is open to pupils in Year 6 to 11 who have been identified by their school as being high achieving and are from a group that is currently under-represented at university. It aims to inspire, motivate and encourage pupils to achieve academic success and raise their aspirations towards higher education. Shine works with 22 schools across the North of England, organising trips and residentials to experience university life. This year, all Year 7 students on the programme had an opportunity to enter a competition and we were delighted when the overall winner was Alana Pritchard, who won an iPad!
