The Y7 football team have had a tremendous season, with cup success in the Leeds U12 cup competition. After a really tricky semi-final against Boston Spa, we played Abbey Grange in the final at Wetherby Athletic. The team got off to the worst start possible, conceding in the first minute, before going 2-0 down around 10 minutes in. Fantastically, the boys showed great resilience and grew into the game, demonstrating some of the excellent technical ability that they had produced throughout the season and scored a goal just before half time thanks to a long range effort from Jesse. Reece then levelled the game with a cool finish before Abbey Grange scored against the run of play to take the lead again. After dominating the second half it was looking like we were running out of time before Ebenezer showed fantastic composure to level the game 3-3 and take it to extra time.
With no team able to find the winner, despite constant Farnley pressure, the game went to penalties, where Farnley managed to hold their nerve and win 3-2 in the shootout with captain Aaron scoring the decisive penalty. All this in torrential Yorkshire rain! We are very proud of the boys.
Alongside this, The Year 7 boy’s rugby team have won both the Leeds & Hunslet schools competition and the Sky Try 9’s competition. This has resulted in the students being nominated to attend the National Sky Try 9’s tournament in Warrington.
I hope you all agree The Farnley Academies sports teams have done exceptionally well in a variety of sports and fixtures. Well done to everyone involved.
