A huge congratulations to our finalists of The Great Gorse Writing Competition 2025! Entries were our most impressive yet, addressing their own interpretations of this year’s theme: ‘Journeys’.

The first of our top ranked entries was Scarlett in Year 7, achieving third place with her short story ‘The Journey of Mireveil’. Scarlett created a wonderfully chilling setting to bring her haunting story to life. This journey was unsettling and conveyed a sinister atmosphere – amazing!

Next, we have a fantastic second place entry from Hadeel in Year 10, with her eerie tale of a train journey to nowhere. Her story had some outstanding visual description through an impressive first-person narrative that relayed a spooky state of confusion. Well done Hadeel for writing such a sophisticated reflection on journeys beyond this lifetime.

We are looking forward to next year already!
