The Shine programme is run by the University of York and aims to inspire, motivate and encourage pupils to raise their aspirations towards higher education. Shine helps pupils to make informed decisions about their future, through a range of opportunities with the University of York.

On Friday, 16th November the Y11 Shine students were invited to their end of programme conference at the University of York. They attended in business dress, rotated around multiple workshops and had a revision session delivered by an external speaker, who specialises in motivating young people. The conference was also a celebration of their time on Shine and all students received a certificate commending their commitment to the programme. They were also informed about programmes they can participate in after Shine, at sixth form or college.

The ‘best dressed’ award also went to Mackenzie for his very smart three piece suit!

On Wednesday, 21st November a group of Y9 students on the Shine programme visited the University of York. They were involved in workshops with Student Ambassadors around career choices, higher education and life at university. There was a session based around student finance and budgeting which helped the students to understand that finance should not be a barrier to accessing higher education.

They also learnt that there are over 50,000 different courses to choose at universities around the UK!
