Following two successful Intake Evenings earlier in the week, on Thursday 4th July, three hundred nervous, excited and enthusiastic Primary School Students experienced life at the Farnley Academy ahead of their September start.
The itinerary for the day was led by Form Tutors and was extremely eventful; packed with taster lessons and team building sessions to allow students to build relationships with their peers and Form Tutors. The glorious weather allowed students to take part in outdoor PE games where Form Groups competed against each other. The Science Department hosted fantastic flame testing experiments which encouraged student to work in pairs and analyse the colours of the flames following their reactions to chemicals. Students also had an opportunity to experience a Citizenship lesson, a subject which has been new this academic year and which continues to flourish. In this session students learned about the role of the Police and were involved with debates and discussions. The Performing Arts Department encouraged students to build their resilience and express themselves through music or drama sessions.
At the end of a very enjoyable day, students joined together for a year group assembly in the auditorium. Miss Naden led the assembly to express the importance of them being 300 individuals, but one team. The assembly also reflected on the day that the year group had shared and students were reminded of the three core values; ambition, resilience and kindness to mark the start of their TFA journey!
