Each year group had a form time activity with a discussion around the importance of VE Day and why the 80th anniversary is so meaningful. Within the discussion, students had an opportunity to consider how VE Day was celebrated in Leeds in 1945, by looking at photographic evidence of the scenes of jubilation and relief. All forms were invited to take part in our house competition to design commemorative bunting and within History lessons, all pupils in KS3 had an activity which focussed on the commemoration og VE Day. Our kitchen staff offered pupils decorated buns, and traditional foods such as sausage and mash and a treacle sponge. Our student leaders in Y9 also visited our local Farnley war memorial to lay a wreath and discuss the importance of remembering and celebrating VE Day.
