Positive Discipline is the framework of the academy’s approach to encouraging outstanding behaviour. In a sense the framework seeks to build upon present good practice whilst addressing identified areas of weakness.
Positive Discipline is supported by the effective use of the Student Planner as a central record of each student’s progress; providing much greater understanding of the discipline process for students, parents/carers, teachers and governors.
Positive Discipline ensures that all students, regardless of ability, age and gender are always in receipt process of praise, recognition and rewards, whilst supporting staff in the classroom ensuring that teachers can get on with teaching students who want to learn and who behave in a satisfactory manner. Furthermore, Positive Discipline ensures disruption in the classroom rarely occurs and if so a clear and well understood protocol is followed.
Positive Discipline (PD) is a core thread across the academy that is implemented consistently and fairly by all teaching and non-teaching staff. Staff will hold the line and drive our expectations and standards whilst hoping that organised and widespread use of praise and rewards will continue to alter the working practices of all students for the better.
One lesson a week, pupils are in their form groups reviewing their positive behaviour and discussing and negative incidents that have happened the previous week. An individually discussion will occur with every child and their form tutor. Students will be visited each week by a member of the Senior Leadership Team, and also selected to visit the Principal for praise.
Students are sent to the Principal for praise for a variety of reasons:
- They have successfully achieved a certificate level.
- They have established six or more weeks of consecutive ‘clean slates’.
- They have performed outstandingly in any way in which the Form Tutor/Senior Leader feels needs to be brought to the attention of the Principal.
Students will receive praise stamps and praise comments in the PD lesson which are valued asa credit each, supporting their achievement to receive further certificates and additional recognition.
