World Book Day Celebrated in Style at The Farnley Academy
The Farnley Academy was filled with creativity, colour and a love of reading as students and staff came together to celebrate World Book Day with a full programme of engaging activities.
The day began with an exciting fancy-dress competition, where students were invited to come dressed as their favourite book character – or even as a word. From classic literary heroes to imaginative interpretations of vocabulary, the costumes on display showcased students’ creativity and enthusiasm for books. The competition created a lively atmosphere throughout the school and sparked plenty of conversations about favourite stories and authors.
To help encourage a lifelong love of reading, every student received a World Book Day voucher, which they can use towards a book of their choice. In addition, the school library offered a selection of free books, allowing students to take a book home and enjoy reading beyond the classroom.
The library was a hub of activity all day as students took part in a drawing competition, creating illustrations inspired by books and characters they love. At lunchtime, students tested their literary knowledge in a series of fun quizzes, which proved a popular and competitive way to celebrate reading with friends.
During form time, students were challenged to use their imagination in a create?a?character competition, designing original characters complete with personalities, backstories and ideas for future adventures. This activity encouraged creativity, storytelling skills and collaboration.
One of the highlights of the day was the continuous story, The Great Dog Bottom Swap, which unfolded throughout the school day, creating a shared piece of storytelling that brought plenty of laughter and excitement.
World Book Day at The Farnley Academy was a fantastic celebration of reading, creativity and community. The wide range of activities ensured that all students could take part in a way that suited them, reinforcing the importance of reading for pleasure and showing that books can be fun, imaginative and inclusive for everyone.
