Last week was the first Empowerment Day this academic year for Year 10. The day was centered around our Year 10 students being ‘Empowered’ to make positive choices about their personal health and well-being. The students had sessions on respect in relationships and domestic violence, physical and mental health and the subsequent impact of discrimination. The day also included a reoccurring theme of the important year ahead, including the upcoming stress of exams and transition to post 16 education with students considering their own mental health and positive behaviours. Importantly we also had a session from Teenage Cancer Trust who spoke to the year group as a whole. Teenage Cancer Trust is a national charity dedicated to helping young people understand and fight cancer. Teenage Cancer Trust’s national ‘Understanding Cancer Together’ presentation is recognised by the government as it raises awareness of cancer which can lead to earlier diagnosis of cancer. All Year 10 students behaved exemplary throughout the day and approached each session with the expected maturity.
