On September 20th 2018, the Academy held our first ENGAGE evening of the year. The evening was for parents and carers of young people in Year 9 and focussed on ensuring they had a good understanding of the requirements of the Core GCSEs.
The Core qualifications, English, mathematics and science, are of the upmost importance for young people and represent between five and seven outcomes at the end of year 11. Not only are they a key requirement for Post-16 study and employment but they also represent nearly 60% of time that students spend in the academy.
The evening was attended by over 30 families and explored specifications, exam papers, 3 year plans for future learning and individualised feedback in mathematics of performance last year.
Feedback was overwhelmingly positive with 100% of families enjoying the sessions provided. Engage are an opportunity to find out much more about the life of the school, meeting class teachers and more importantly understanding how to support at home.
Other feedback included:
- Knowing how to help
- Metrics / RAG rating to show gaps.
- The engaging between my child and me. The different methods that I learned.
- My child’s information.
- Finding out all the revision that is available to my child.
- New revision techniques.
- Online tools and revision sources for testing.
- Science was really informative and well presented.
- All of it, especially the internet sites which can help your child revise.
- How to get further information online.
- The awareness of tools available to support learning away from school.
- Ideas for revision. Good to try different things – adapt to what works best.
- Revision tips; speed writing.
- Maths – given web sites – very helpful.
Come on, let’s get ENGAGED.
