Extra-curricular participation is incredibly important to the life of a young person. Studies provide evidence that engagement in extra-curricular activities at school can improve a student’s academic performance, social skills, self-esteem and of course health and lifestyle.

This year at The Farnley Academy we are ensuring that every child has the opportunity to be part an even greater range of extra-curricular activities than ever before! We are regularly seeing hundreds of students on site long after the final bell engaged activities including African Drumming, Science Club, Code Breaking Club or Volleyball to name but a few!

A new initiative launched in collaboration with the PE department is for students in Years 7 and 8 to be set homework in the form of attendance at a sports club. The uptake and interest has been exceptional with the majority of Year 7s enjoying a range of physical activities. Regular attendance at clubs will be rewarded with the new health stamp and termly prize draws.

We are looking forward to sharing further updates about our extra-curricular provision as the year progresses!
